The Towns
Winterland involves a lot of travel to get from city to city where all of the epic excursions are. The following are those that are mentioned in this adventure:
Stockholm, Sweden: Sweden’s capital and where you will find all of the city adventures that you look for in every big city.
Kiruna, Sweden: Where Camp Ripan and the Aurora Spa are located. It is the main town to fly into to reach the Swedish Lapland. It is about a 15-minute drive to Jukkasjarvi where the Ice Hotel, meeting the reindeer and the northern lights snowmobiling excursions are located.
Levi, Finland: A ski resort town where you will find the Glass Igloo, Skiing, and the Spa Hotel.
Rovaniemi, Finland: A larger area in the Lapland where you will find excursions like more igloo adventures, ice karting and Santa Claus’ Village.
Kemi, Finland: Where the Sampo Icebreaker, the Polar Plunge and the Ice Driving adventures are.
The Tips
The food and cocktails in Stockholm are great but expect to pay top dollar. Prices can be as high as $30 per drink for the average pour.
Rovaniemi is crowded but full of things to do.
The Kiruna airport is tiny and the runway is often covered in snow.
The food in Kiruna and Jukkasjarvi is of mostly Swedish cuisine without many other options.
Do a lot of research when choosing your hotel in Kemi. Some of the great reviews you see online are due to large tour groups that visit the area, so the volume tends to skew the actual realistic representation of some of these hotels.
