Northern Lights Snowmobiling Tour

The Ice Hotel offers a Northern Lights Snowmobiling tour in Jukkasjarvi. The tour takes you through the Lapland for about an hour before stopping at a Swedish cabin in the woods where your guides cook you a traditional Sami dinner and give a brief lesson on their culture. Dinner may include reindeer soup cooked over an open fire pit and hot lingonberry juice. After dinner, you head back out on the snowmobiles for another short ride back to the main lodge at the Ice Hotel. On most nights you can see the northern lights during this excursion.

The Tips

  • Wear the gear that the Ice Hotel Provides (snowsuit and boots)-yours will most likely not be warm enough.

  • Bring your own goggles-this makes a huge difference while driving the snowmobiles and the Ice Hotel does not provide them.

  • Your guides cook you Reindeer soup during a lesson about Sami culture. The Reindeer meat is just like beef-it does not have a gamy taste.
