Sampo Icebreaker Cruise
The Sampo Icebreaker adventure begins with snowmobiling on the Gulf of Bothnia before pulling over (literally on the Sea) and waiting for the Sampo to break through the ice to pick you up. You are then given a guided tour through the ship and served a Finnish dinner in the main cabin before venturing out to do the polar plunge. Since the ship has broken the ice around it, there is a small open area of water right next to the Sampo where everyone jumps in. It is about 10-15 minutes of floating around and playing in the water and then getting back on the snowmobiles to head back to base. The Sampo excursion is an epic adventure.
The Tips
Ask the guide to shorten the snowmobiling portion of the tour to only an hour, otherwise it is LONG and extremely COLD.
Make sure you have the right gear, what they provide is not as warm as the Ice Hotel’s.
Finland cuisine is some of the worst in the world and the food on this cruise is no different. You will most likely enjoy the bread more than the meal.
Beware of the salmon soup, it has bones in it.
