Zermatt
Zermatt is a ski resort town located at the base of the Matterhorn ski area. There are many hotels to choose from, all possessing a Swiss chalet style and personalized service. The town is filled with restaurants, shopping and neighborhood bars to go to after a long day of skiing. No personal cars are allowed to drive there, so you will rely on buses and taxis to get around. It is small enough though that you can walk to most places as long as it’s not too cold or snowy. The bus ride to the Matterhorn ski area is only about 5 minutes away and your hotel will provide you with transportation to and from the hotel.

The Tips
There are no rental cars. Let the hotel know your train schedule, they’ll arrange transportation to and from the hotel.
If you aren’t big on the Swiss cuisine, the Italian restaurants are authentic and delicious since you are so close to the border.
