Transportation

Only 20 square miles in size, Bermuda is meant to be explored. Although, with its diminutive size comes narrow and windy roads. Because of this, tourists are not allowed to rent cars for safety purposes as well as to minimize traffic and ecological impact. For many years the only options to get around Bermuda were scooters and taxis, the latter being expensive. Scooters are reasonably priced and the rental companies will deliver them to your resort upon request. Unfortunately, they are a bit dangerous to ride and many people don’t feel safe doing so. Recently, a new alternative transportation option has become available; the Twizy. These are tiny electric cars, and the best option for transportation on the island because they are really easy to operate, faster and easier to drive than scooters and much less dangerous. You can find these rentals at the Princess Hamilton Resort, The Fairmont Southampton or The Loren at Pink Beach, although delivery to your resort is also available.

The Tips

  • No air conditioning and it gets HOT. A towel to sit on is recommended.

  • There are no windows and the car does not lock, but there is a very small console that does.

  • There are two seats, one in front of the other-it can be a challenge getting in and out.
